House in a Hill
3316 N. Vernon Street is BCN’s second collaboration with these repeat clients, who had a clear vision for their needs and desired unique elements tailored to their lifestyle. The goal was to create a home that seamlessly supports their family dynamics, blending style with functionality. Construction completed in 2021.
One key design element is a separate breakfast area, intentionally placed away from the main living space. This encourages the family to gather for casual meals, creating a dedicated space for connection. Just off the breakfast room is a stunning screened porch, accessible through a telescoping door. This space features a fireplace, heaters, and a fan, making it a comfortable three-season room.
Adjacent to the living areas is a combined homework space and mom's office, providing privacy while maintaining the home's open flow. The built-in desk spaces ensure the family’s activities are organized without disrupting the home’s aesthetic.
The kitchen is a standout, featuring white-painted and white oak cabinetry, paired with skylights that flood the space with natural light. Open shelves add both practicality and beauty. A built-in coffee bar offers the perfect spot to start the day, while a large walk-through pantry provides additional refrigeration, keeping practical items out of sight but close at hand.

The family room extends the exterior stonework inside, where a vaulted ceiling is anchored by a stone-faced wood-burning fireplace, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The Great Room, located at the heart of the home, connects seamlessly to the backyard. To address topographical challenges, retaining walls were used to maximize space, including a built-in trampoline for family fun.
The lot’s design included a side-entry garage and a mid-level mudroom, enhancing functionality while maintaining the home’s aesthetic appeal. These spaces support everyday activities without compromising the home’s efficient and beautiful design.
Upstairs, the primary suite offers his and hers closets and a vaulted ceiling, creating a luxurious retreat. The twins’ Jack and Jill bath features a shared vanity area, with separate tub and toilet spaces for privacy and convenience. A practical water bottle filling station is located in the hallway, just off the bedrooms.
A bonus loft space serves as a recreational area for kids, while the statement stair tower with two staircases and character-grade engineered white oak flooring adds architectural drama and warmth. The basement is highlighted by a full bar with a wine cellar, offering an exceptional space for entertainment and relaxation.
